Collingwood Today

Good Comfort Home Care was recently featured in Collingwood New Spotlight, highlighting the personal journey that inspired its founding. About six years ago, our founder and CEO, Marcel Zierfuss, faced the challenges of Ontario’s homecare system firsthand when his father-in-law was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

“Navigating the care system, we had no idea,” explained Zierfuss. “Trying to understand the options, finding care, getting care, that was hard enough. But once we started getting care for him, we realized we were dealing with a broken homecare system.”

As the article notes, Zierfuss found that many homecare providers approached care as a simple transaction. “It was like a staffing agency, just providing warm bodies. There were different people every time; there was a lack of consistency and quality and a lack of training on dementia and specific care needs.”

The pivotal moment came when his father-in-law suffered a near-life-ending fall under the supervision of a homecare PSW. “I said, enough is enough. It is time for better homecare!”

Determined to make a difference, Zierfuss founded Good Comfort Home Care in early 2023, with a mission to provide compassionate, personalized, and reliable care. “This is not a transaction but a personal relationship with the loved one and the family,” he emphasized.
